| What is Vision Therapy?
Vision Therapy (or optometric vision therapy) is the systematic retraining of the visual system to improve focusing, eye teaming, and eye tracking. Vision therapy retrains the eyes to work more effectively and efficiently to treat vision related learning problems.
Vision Therapy begins with an evaluation by Dr. Wonderling, not just for eyesight, but for eye tracking, teaming, focusing, and coordination. The doctor will discuss the child’s study habits, behaviors, and learning obstacles with both the child and his or her parent or guardian.
If a vision problem is diagnosed, the doctor will design a plan for treating the problem through Vision Therapy. Most plans include a series of 18 to 45 in-office therapy sessions. Here, the child will work with a optometric vision therapist on developing better eye skills through training exercises and other therapeutic activities. Vision Therapy is most effective with regular attendance with the therapist and a commitment to the prescribed home therapy.
