Success stories

“My eyes are better and stronger. I feel better about school. Thank you.”
-Mildred, age 7
“At first V.T. was very hard and frustrating for Mildred. Mildred worked very hard at it and as her eyes got stronger it became easier and even fun for her. Tasks and schoolwork used to take her longer with more frustration. Now, schoolwork comes a little easier, but with far less resistance and frustration. Mildred seems much more willing to try new things and has more tolerance for the length of time she can work on something and always has a good attitude about doing schoolwork now. Additionally, her hand/eye coordination has improved greatly!”
-Dr. Breann Renner

“Before Vision Therapy Academy, I couldn’t hit the tennis ball, spike the volleyball, or shoot the basketball. Afterward I could do all those things. I always thought I was just bad but that wasn’t the case. My therapist was nice, kind and willing to help me when I couldn’t understand and was always funny. I’ll never forget this place; they have helped me a lot with my vision.”

“Vision therapy helped me to read fluently, and it is not as hard to read like before. It helped me learn new things like the presidents. I like to read a little more. Making school not as hard to do my homework. Thank you vision therapy.”
-Ben, age 11

“Prior to vision therapy Benjamin had been struggling with reading since 1st grade. For a few years he had done Bal-a-vis-z therapy and that seemed to help some. In 5th grade his grades were going down and after seeing a friend’s child have success, we decided to give it a try. Since Ben’s therapy was done most of the summer, we haven’t gotten to see how much it helped with school just starting. We are very excited to see the progress. Thank you vision therapy! “

“Vision therapy helped me improve in all sports activities. Helped me not see double anymore! “
-Axton, Age 9

“Since starting vision therapy Axton has made huge improvements in accuracy and hand eye coordination and showing overall dedication. The biggest change we had noticed is the enormous increase in confidence. Prior to working with Jennifer, Shannon, and Dr. Wonderling, Axton was very self-conscious of his lazy eye and teased on some occasions about it. The skills developed while in vision therapy and his confidence grew leaps and bounds, which was a great accomplishment for himself. We are so grateful for everyone at Vision Therapy Academy in making Axton another successful journey!”

“The first week of therapy was hard, but then it got easier. My reading and eye teaming has gotten so much better.”
-Makai, age 9

“Makai had so much trouble learning how to read. He knew his letters and sounds, but just couldn’t read. No matter what we tried. We are so grateful for Dr. Wonderling catching Makai’s problem with his eyes at his routine eye exam. When she suggested vision therapy, Makai said NO WAY! However, after the first session he came out so excited. Later he confessed that he didn’t think he should get rewards because it is actually fun so he wants to go. Not only is it fun, but his reading has improved dramatically. We had been so happy with the whole process and are excited to see what is ahead for our son.”

“Why did I wait so long?
First a little perspective…. I’ve known about Dr. Wonderling and VT for at least 23 years. I put two of my three sons through VT over a decade ago. I even referred my co-worker. After she was through she had her daughter go through VT. She strongly encouraged me to do it over a year ago when I was first considering it for myself. I knew I had issues. When my boys had their materials home, I tried it. Everything from my left eye was black. I knew then I needed VT. But I am an accomplished adult. I have multiple college degrees, despite being the slowest reader on the planet!! I have a good career. It’s fine. I convinced myself I don’t really need it. And then.. it was getting more and more difficulty to back up the car. Switching back and forth between mirrors and the camera I thought things in my periphery were actually jumping around. It spooked me as I jerked the wheel around. I have never been able to use y binocular microscope at work and just see on ear canal to work on but I could get by. The kicker, the Final Straw, was when I was in the grocery store and everything on the shelf was shaking back and forth. I actually felt sick. I finally called and came in. I never expected to be as emotion al as I was when I tried to do the activities and I couldn’t read a straight down line of letters under the red and green. I buckled down, worked hard, and 13 very fast weeks later, I can back up my car without jumping, I can see one ear canal with my binoculars (and also one Eastern Blue Bird)!!! And things on the store shelf don’t jump around. I know I waited, but I urge you not to. It’s worth every penny! This group is the most caring and wonderful group you could ever imagine working with. I’m almost afraid to stop but they assure me I’m ready to go do life on my own again. I’m sure they wouldn’t let me go if I wasn’t ready. My advice is… just do it NOW!”

“Thank you for all you did for me I will miss you. Thank you so so so much. I’ll do what you teach me. Before I stressed then I met you and you made me happy and helped me a lot!”
-Mason, age 9

“Prior to vision therapy Mason had been struggling with reading since he was in Kindergarten. He scored well below average on classroom testing despite significant 1:1 time spent with him at home and with a reading tutor for 18 months. Thankfully, Mason’s school principal recommended further visual testing by vision therapy after we started asking if he could have a learning disability like dyslexia. Vision therapy was the answer we had been searching for identifying immediately that Mason’s eyes were not communicating and connecting with his brain like they should be. We are thrilled with the progress Mason has made over the past 6 months and could not be more proud of all his hard work and could not be more thankful for the VT team. Mason’s progress in reading has grown tremendously as well as his confidence. Vision Therapy has been the best investment we could have ever made to help shape our son’s future. Thank you!

“A year ago I started to recognize some similarities between Beau and my older son Beckett. Beckett had previously gone through vision therapy and similarities made me realize I needed to have Beau evaled.

Beau was having a hard time focusing and staying on task. About a month into his treatment his teacher even began to notice a behavior change and an improvement in his reading. She even awarded him student of the month! His love of school and focus has improved immensely. We have seen amazing results with vision therapy and will have our next son evaluated next. It’s truly amazing to see how this therapy improves so many areas of our boys’ lives and we recommend it to everyone we know.”

“At the start I had double vision and a lot of other problems. But since I started vision therapy I have gotten better and better. It was hard and I worked a lot. But I am finally there and I am so happy! I am glad I did vision therapy. My vision is a lot better and the people are really nice. Vision therapy is worth it! I finally did it, I graduated!”
-Mia, Age 10

“Mia has seen progress in every area of her therapy due to vision therapy. When we started 2.5 years ago we didn’t know if we would see improvement since she has a brain tumor which is the root of her vision issues. Within the first 12 weeks we could see that this was the missing piece keeping her from making further gains in OT, PT, and school. Within 1.5 years she “graduated” from OT and PT and were told they were so impressed because they had thought she would be doing both the rest of her life. Now as we finish she can see deer in the field, catch a ball, track, is a top student in her class, and genuinely loves reading. Her eyes cross less, her vision has improved, and her confidence has improved. We feel so blessed to have been able to have Jenifer, Shannon, Sandy and Dr. Wonderling pour into our daughter and help shape the amazing, kind, hard working girl she is. I have recommended vision therapy to countless people.”

“I went to the eye doctor because it was hard to read. Dr. Puls said to try vision therapy and it worked great. My eyes now work together when I read. Thank you Jennifer so so much for helping me on hard words and reading.”
-Charley, age 7

“Charley has made great progress in reading since beginning vision therapy. The biggest change that we’ve seen is the transition from wanting to be read to to now her wanting to read on her own or with/to us. Her confidence has improved greatly in addition to her reading skills. She no longer uses her finger to track her reading, she is attacking unknown words phonetically instead of letter by letter and her fluency is increasing. Our family is so thankful for the amazing staff at Vision Therapy Academy for providing the tools to help Charley’s vision. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
